Young musicians from Frome College and Selwood Academy will fill Frome Town Centre with music once again on Saturday 22nd March, with the return of ‘Frome Busks’. From 11am to 2pm, the musicians will work their way around amplified and acoustic stages around the town centre, including the Westway precinct, Boyle Cross, outside the Cheese and Grain and Catherine Hill, playing 15-minute live music sets. The event marks the final day of Frome Kindness Festival, which runs from 15th to 22nd March.
Frome College music teacher Josh Hampson, who organises the event in partnership with Frome Town Council, said:
“We’ve got a really vibrant music department at Frome college, with loads of performers. It’s a big deal for a 14-year-old to come out in public and play and sing – events like this are so important in building confidence. This event also gets the youth of Frome seen in a positive light, out in public, doing something really impressive. It’s not just good for musicians; A-Level Music Tech students will also gain technical experience by setting up the event. And it raises funds for the music department, so we can provide more opportunities for young musicians, buy equipment and make music accessible for all students. Thanks to the team at FTC for supporting us to run the event again this year.”

Cllr Sara Butler said “Frome Busks is such a brilliant event – Frome has a vibrant live music scene and it’s great to have our local schools encouraging the talent of the next generation of musicians and providing opportunities for them to perform live for everyone to enjoy. Frome Town Council is proud to support Frome College and Selwood Academy – come into town on 22nd March to enjoy the music and make a donation to this brilliant cause. Many thanks to Josh Hampson for all his amazing work making Frome Busks happen.”
Any funds raised at Frome Busks will go towards extra-curricular music performances and productions for Frome College students.
Frome Town Council has a Busker’s Code which sets out good practice and covers all forms of street performance including theatre, poetry and other speakers, you can read the code here.
