Frome Town Council are offering free family activities and a wildlife mapping session with the Wild Bunch on the Mary Baily field on Saturday 28th September from 1pm to 5pm, alongside a skate jam from Frome Skatepark Project’s Skate Jam. The Fair Frome Tribe and friends will perform on the bandstand in Victoria Park from 2pm, and the community café will be open for refreshments throughout the day.
The event has a dual purpose: like the pop-up events at the Old Showfield earlier this year, the FTC team are in the park to speak to residents about the things they like about Victoria Park and the Mary Baily field, and anything they’d like to change, add or improve. Cllr Mark Dorrington said:
“Victoria Park is a popular and well-used space and we want to maintain that, while thinking about ways it could be even better. Our engagement officers’ recent work with schools showed that, sadly, not everyone feels safe in Victoria Park, so that’s one of the things we’d like to explore. Alongside FTC’s free activities for younger residents, the Skatepark Project team are keen to showcase the fun and entertainment to be had from skating or wheeling on the ramps. Our Environment team have some ideas to share about additional seating, spaces aimed at encouraging girls and older children to use the space, tree planting and more, but this is your park and as with the Showfield, nothing is set in stone. Come down and have your say, or if you can’t make it, share your thoughts and ideas via our survey.”
Frome Wild Bunch member and Resilience Officer Jo Morris said ‘Come and find out more about Frome’s Community Wildlife Mapping Project and how you can help to record your observations of nature and assist Somerset Environmental Record Centre (SERC) monitor biodiversity. You aren’t just doing your bit to help, it’s a lot of fun, too and makes you more aware and mindful of the wonderful nature we see around us, and how precious it is.”
The Skatepark Project’s Skate Jam runs from 1pm to 5pm on Saturday 28th September, alongside free, fun activities including a wildlife mapping project featuring the iNaturalist app with Frome Wild Bunch, and an opportunity to discuss and influence plans for the Mary Baily Field and Victoria Park. A live music gig on Victoria Park bandstand runs from 2pm.
