Ready, set, glow – date confirmed for Christmas Light Switch On

Frome Town Council is getting ready to dazzle with this year’s Christmas Light Switch On, set to take place on Friday 22 November 5-7pm. Lantern artists Mel Day and Aliss Vaas are delighted to bring the parade to the town for the seventh year running and plan to make it brighter and better than ever.

The theme this year is ‘Winter Woodland’. You can book one of several free workshops making woodland creatures, or you can buy a kit with all the materials you need from Frome Town Hall or Discover Frome at the Library if you want to get creative at home.

If you want to make something a bit more special, Aliss and Mel will share their expertise in a one-off Advanced Creative Lantern Workshop for adults on Saturday 12 October. Where you can make wonderful, decorated toadstools and owls.

Mel and Aliss said, “It is so special for us to run the parade in our hometown. It is a chance to bring everyone together in a shining celebration. Every year we are astonished and delighted by the beautiful lanterns people make at home and in the workshops but the main thing is to take part, so why not make a simple pyramid with our small kit and join in too.”

If you would rather make a pyramid with guidance, there will be a family friendly session taking place at Frome Library on November 2nd. There will be more workshops to come in the lead up to the parade so keep an eye on the Frome Lanterns website for further dates.

Once you have made your lantern you are welcome to join the parade at the Christmas Light Switch On led by the ever-joyful Samba Band. Please note that the parade is restricted to two people per lantern.

Lantern kits are available to buy at Frome Town Hall and Discover Frome at Frome Library. Frome area residents can book onto workshops via www.fromelanterns.co.uk For more information about the Christmas Light Switch On keep an eye on Frome Town Council’s website.
