Community – Solar and Beyond

Why support community energy?

Investing in or supporting local renewable energy projects helps keep energy generation and profits within Frome, benefitting the entire community.

Frome Renewable Energy Community (FRECo)

FRECo is a local not for profit, democratic organisation that offers people in Frome the chance to invest in the town’s renewable energy infrastructure by buying shares. Any surplus from projects is reinvested in a community fund to support energy saving. FRECo was founded through Sustainable Frome in 2016, working in partnership with Bath and West Community Energy. It enabled Frome Medical Practice and Frome Football Club to switch to solar energy and is exploring future renewable energy projects.

By getting involved with Frome Renewable Energy Community (FRECo), you can:

  • Help fund and develop new community energy projects – Supporting locally owned renewable energy means profits stay in Frome.
  • Deliver long-term benefits for Frome – Solar energy reduces reliance on imported energy and protects against market volatility.
  • Create shared value – Community-owned projects generate income that can be reinvested into local initiatives.
  • Support a fairer energy transition – Ensuring that more people, not just businesses and homeowners, can access the benefits of planet friendly energy.
