Frome Town Council will begin implementing its Management and Improvement Plan for the Old Showfield this spring – with better footpaths, outdoor fitness and new play surfacing all on the way.Peter Macfadyen, Leader of Frome Town Council explaines “Following widespread public consultation, we’re delighted to be able to start on the improvements and ideas identified in the Management Plan – and there are some fundamental improvements that we want to deliver as quickly as we can, including better footpaths, more bins and more places for people to sit down. As well as this, we’ll be developing the children’s play area, with new surfacing, a boundary hedge – and hopefully some new play equipment in the next twelve months too”
The Management Plan also includes planting a community orchard; a picnic space; additional tree and shrub planting; and creating wildflower meadows & margins as part of a joint community project with Somerset Wildlife Trust’s ‘Magnificent Meadows’ team.
The improvements will be paid for using existing savings (the Council’s Earmarked Reserves) and money from the Section 106 agreements that resulted from the hospital and medical practice developments.
