New shoots for The Pod – launch of SEED Pod group

Crafts with The Pod

A new fortnightly stay and play group for children with additional needs starts Wednesday 8th January at Wesley Methodist Church. Hosted by The Pod Charity and supported by Frome Town Council, ‘SEED Pod’ offers play sessions with games, activities and crafts for young people aged eight and over and their parents/carers, running after school from 3.30pm to 5.30pm.

Charity Manager Sue Paxton stated “We are pleased to have the opportunity to support more children with additional needs, including those unable to join The Pod youth club due to its long waiting list. SEED Pod will be a place for young people aged eight and over to make friends in a safe and supported space outside of school, and for parent carers to make connections too. Younger siblings are welcome but should bring their own age-appropriate games and activities. The Pod team will work with families at the group to plan future activities, depending on the interests of the young people who attend. No booking is required; please make a voluntary contribution of £2 per child aged eight and over if you can. There will also be a pop-up cafe serving affordable drinks and snacks.”

“The charity is also thrilled to be working with Focus Frome to improve health and wellbeing services for young people with additional needs.  Focus Frome will be attending the SEED Pod sessions on 22nd January, 26th February and 26th March.

“In other news, we’re delighted to announce the expansion of The Pod’s popular youth club with the reopening of Vallis Youth Centre in the coming weeks.  When Pod Youth club moves back into the Youth centre in the next few weeks, we will be launching a second youth club in response to demand. It’s exciting to see so much positive growth in the charity’s offer to children, young people and families in Frome. We thank FTC and the Frome community for their continued support of The Pod.”

SEED Pod runs every other Wednesday from 8th January to 26th March at Wesley Methodist Church, from 3.30pm to 5.30pm. Session dates and times can be found on The Pod’s social media or via the FIND directory at https://www.frometowncouncil.gov.uk/find/. Contact the team on 07842 110574 or email admin@thepodcharity.org.uk with any questions about the project.
