New places and faces for the Healthy Homes team

Energy Advisor Adam at Frome Library, 2023

The Healthy Homes team’s Energy Advice Champions will be available to offer advice at fortnightly drop-in sessions at Frome Medical Practice from Wednesday 16th October between 12pm to 4pm, and at a pop-up ‘roadshow’ event in the Westway precinct on Wednesday 23rd October from 10am to 4pm. These sessions join the monthly drop-ins at Frome Town Hall.

In addition, Energy Advisors will be on hand at flu jab clinics between 11am and 1pm on the following dates: 19th October, 26th October, 2nd November and 9th November.

The extended service follows the Ofgem announcement that the energy price cap will rise by around 10% from 1st October, or £12 a month on the average bill. Several new Energy Advice Champions, trained by the Centre for Sustainable Energy (CSE) have joined the team and can provide free, impartial advice on keeping your home warm, dry, draught-free and comfortable. The team can also advise or signpost if you’re in debt to your energy supplier, if you need help to understand your bill, or if there is grant funding available to resolve a particular issue.

Cllr Fiona Barrows said:

“Times are tough and the news of an increase in the price cap will be difficult for many people. Our growing team of Energy Advice Champions are able to help with a range of issues, whether that’s taking steps to make your home cheaper to run, speaking to your supplier for help with your energy costs or assessing the benefits of larger-scale home improvements and any grant funding available. Come and speak to them at one of the new drop-ins at Frome Medical Practice or at the Westway on 23rd October and explore your options with their help.”

For those unable to attend sessions or who need more in-depth advice, The Energy Advice Volunteers also offer home visits.  They will be able to help residents install simple energy-saving measures such as draught-proofing, thermal curtains, LED light bulbs, and radiator panels and help set up heating controls.  You can request a visit by emailing energyadvice@frometowncouncil.gov.uk or calling 01373 480391.
