We have had two spectacular events in Frome since my last column: Photo Frome and the Frome Festival.
Photo Frome has established itself as the leading photo exhibition in the South West and probably outside London. This event goes from strength to strength and continues to grow. Congratulations to Mike Yates and the team. My challenge, set by David Chedgy, was to visit all 15 venues. And I did! You can see my photos on my Mayor of Frome Facebook page!
The Frome Festival was once again an amazing success with a wide and diverse range of events, many of which were free and open to all. Festival Director, Adam Laughton, has driven this with relentless energy and enthusiasm. Well done Adam and all involved.
But there are lots more things to follow this summer! More fun events are on the horizon with The Childrens’ Festival on Sunday 23rd July hosted by Purple Elephant, which this year has the theme of Climate Change. This is a free event based at the Cheese and Grain and along the river walk to Welshmill park. I’m informed that there will be a large turtle to rival last year’s green dragon!!!
There’s also Playday on Wednesday 2nd August where FTC officers along with play providers Super Roots, will be hosting an afternoon of fun activity in Rodden Meadow. Taking place from 1-3pm, it promises to be an action-packed play session in our lovely meadow.
So, as schools break for the summer holidays, there are many events, projects, arts, sports and fun things for young people to do across the town. I am setting young people a challenge to get involved with at least one of these events over the summer then let me know what you did and all the fun you had. I will attend as many as I can so see you there! Take care.
