Mayor’s column 18 January

This week I’ve helped with the group that looks at applications for the Town Council’s Community Grant. The Town Council sets aside some of its budget to support community groups with funds. When you apply for a grant you need to tell us what you want to do and show how you will spend the money. We have to be sure that public money is being spent on the projects you applied funding for so you will also be asked to report back on how things went.

The application forms are clear and can be found online on the Town Council website. Click on ‘your community’ and scroll down to ‘grants’. You can also get the forms by coming into the Town Hall.  The Council can provide a whole package of support to help you complete your application. It’s best to contact Kate Hellard, Community Officer for information and she will direct you to the most appropriate support.

This week we were looking at the first round of the Community Grant. It is reviewed and allocated by staff and councillors. If you have a project that could benefit from funding between £300-£2000 then the Community Grant is the one to apply for. There is another round for these sort of applications, you’ll need to have any application in by 5pm on Thursday 15th February.

I also have a Mayor’s fund for small grants of up to £300.

There is also a fund that YOU can take part in choosing and voting for which projects will get funded. The People’s Budget has a pot of £25,000 to allocate… and you could apply for up to £10,000 for one project but you need to get your skates on as completed application forms need to be in by 10am Monday 22nd January.

Best of luck!
