Hello, welcome to another ‘Personal View’ column with the Deputy! I’m so excited that live events are within touching distance as lockdown eases further. I’m very happy to see that The Cheese & Grain has announced 2 big events recently, it’s so good to see live music returning to the venue and the town! The first is alternative folk superstar Frank Turner, he’s bringing acts from his label (Xtra Mile recordings) under the banner of a travelling all-dayer festival called ‘The Gathering’, they include: Skinny Lister, Guise, Johnny Lloyd, Berries, Deux Furieuses, and more. That’s set for June 26th and 27th. Tickets for that are on sale NOW! The other name returning to Frome is the legendary and iconic Fatboy Slim (backed up by the formidable Gorilla Tactics) who is famous for several mega hits including ‘Praise You’ and ‘Right Here, Right Now’. Put the 23rd of June in your diaries for that one, tickets are sold out, but I hear there might be returns – keep an eye on their social channels!
I also have a couple of other Frome Town Council community events that I have the pleasure of sharing with you now. First up we have ‘Picnic in The Meadow’ which takes place on Sunday 11th July between 11am and 2pm, billed as “a nature inspired end to the Frome Festival, this will include a host of activities, from river dipping to tree climbing. Bring a picnic and have fun in one of Frome’s most loved open spaces”.
The other is a ‘Play Day’ which takes place 12pm and 4pm on Wednesday 4th August in Victoria Park and the Mary Baily playing fields where there will be a variety of activities for all ages. I turn 29 that day so I’m expecting my age group to be catered for!
Of course, we can’t forget the incredible Frome Festival taking place between 3rd – 12th July. They’ve really pulled it out the bag this year despite all complications the pandemic has brought to the events industry. I take my hat off to them! Opening the festival on July 3rd at The Cheese & Grain are indie rock legends The Lightning Seeds, we also get treated to the astute wit and comedy of panel show regular Reginald D Hunter. Other acts include British Reggae favourites Aswad, cult comedians Paul Foot and George Egg, Rock, Jazz and fusion artists like Johnny and the Baptists, Sonic Silents and Rob Heron. Head to fromefestival.co.uk for a glimpse at the full schedule. It’s a belter!
