Interested in a career in sustainability?

Frome Town Council has two exciting summer placement opportunities within our community projects and community engagement teams. 

Would you like a career in sustainability? From renewable energy to resource efficiency, it’s a growing and exciting sector. 

Frome Town Council is perhaps the only town council in the country to employ a sustainability officer and we are developing an array of interesting and innovative projects to enable Frome to become a strong, resilient town. We are now looking to expand this role with the support of a summer placement.

The ideal candidate will work on a range of projects: from the country’s first Sharing Shop (www.sharefrome.org), to the community fridge, electric car club (www.co-wheels.org.uk/frome) to supporting our work around increasing opportunities for renewable energy and energy efficiency.

The role will entail:

  • Marketing and community engagement
  • Research
  • Fundraising support
  • Communications such as liaising with local press, social media and proof-reading
  • Admin support
  • Project implementation
  • Other duties as they arise

We are looking for an enthusiastic person who is passionate about sustainability. They need to be motivated and hard-working, with an attention to detail. Experience of research, marketing, communications and / or fundraising would be an advantage.

This is a part time, two days a week, summer position. The proposed days of work are Thursday and Friday, starting in June and ending in September (dates are flexible). A weekly contribution of £50 towards transport and subsistence will be provided.

Community projects:

Would you like a career in Community Development? Do you have a background in Social Science, Participation and or Education?  Would you like to use your skills and experience and learn new ones?

Frome Town Council is working to create a strong, vibrant and sustainable community, leading the way with the engagement and participation of local people, with localism at its heart.

We are looking for someone to join us for the summer to help deliver an ambitious programme of projects. This is an exciting opportunity to get involved in supporting and developing the capacity of the voluntary sector through a range of local projects and to support the development of a new strategic plan for the town. There will also be a chance to get involved in planning and shaping the way we engage local people in influencing the decision making in the town.

The role will be varied and whilst it will be largely office based and there will be plenty of opportunity to attend a range of meetings and events alongside the Community Projects Officers.

It will include:

  • Research and analysis
  • Communications such as liaising with local press, social media and proof-reading
  • Admin support and design of posters, leaflets etc.
  • Project delivery
  • Other duties as they arise
