Last September during Great Big Green Week, Frome’s Neighbourhood Network group hosted their first Wild Neighbours get together with Somerset Wildlife Trust. This meeting spurred an idea, and Frome’s Wild Bunch was formed!
The Wild Bunch team champion the idea that our gardens and green spaces are inter-connected parts of a much larger wild space that is owned by our wild neighbours such as hedgehogs, bees and birds. It is open to anyone who is interested in gardening for wildlife in our private gardens and shared local green spaces and they are looking for fellow enthusiasts to join their group.
Cllr Mark Dorrington said: “This is a brilliant group and shows our wildlife spaces can be interconnected through community and more than the sum of our individual parts. It’s open to everyone, whether an experienced gardener, a novice newbie or an enthusiastic wildlife lover – everyone is welcome to join the Wild Bunch.”
This spring the group are holding a series of sessions that will promote wildlife-friendly approaches in our neighbourhoods:
January 20th – Gardening for wildlife on your street – how to get your neighbours involved.
February 17th – Getting ready for spring – what to be doing now in our gardens
March 17th – Wild Bunch on location – a visit to a site of wild interest
The Wild Bunch gatherings will take place on the third Thursday of every month, 1.30pm – 2.30pm either at Frome Town Hall or online via zoom.
The group have already been busy creating a Gardening for Wildlife booklet that can be downloaded from Frome Town Council’s website and shared with neighbours. There’s even a quiz to see how wildlife friendly your garden already is.
