Frome homeowners are getting a retrofit

Frome residents are thinking about home improvement differently thanks to the Frome Retrofit project which launched last year. Since it began, local homeowners have been rushing to take up the opportunity to get a free health check on their home.

Retrofit is all about finding ways to make houses easier to heat, retain that heat and reduce carbon emissions, as well as lowering energy bills. Frome Town Council’s Community Retrofit lead, Sally Richards, works with residents interested in improving their homes in this way by compiling a customised report to give them all the information they need to retrofit their home, now or in the future.

Cllr Steve Tanner said, “We’re delighted this project has got off to such a successful start. It’s perfect for people who have been thinking about how to make their home more energy efficient and reduce their bills, but just aren’t sure what to tackle first or how to get started. The Retrofit assessment is a quick and easy process with Sally taking a survey of your house as well as talking to you about your lifestyle in order to create a detailed and informative report unique to you and your home.”

Alongside this support, Sally is hosting a series of free talks for residents, architects and tradespeople, in partnership with Centre for Sustainable Energy. The events will take place at Frome Town Hall every six weeks on a Tuesday from 7.30-9pm with refreshments, and are for anyone interested in learning more about the Retrofit process and what it can achieve for health and home, as well as those offering Retrofit services.

The next event takes place on Tuesday 23rd July and is focused on ‘Retrofit: Understanding your home’. At this talk Sally will consider how you can make your home more efficient in terms of energy use, what low cost and/or low risk measures you might be able to install yourself, as well as what sort of repairs you should look out for to keep your home dry and less draughty.

Sally said, “These sessions are a welcoming and friendly environment to share specialist knowledge and a unique opportunity to create a retrofit community, including signposting for local building professionals. So whether you are looking for help or delivering retrofitting services – please do join me to find out more.”

The Retrofit events are free to attend but please book your space so the team know you are joining them. Reserve your space at ‘Retrofit: Understanding your home’ via https://bit.ly/retrofit-23rd-July

The Retrofit project is part of the lottery-funded Green and Healthy Frome, a partnership between Edventure, Frome Medical Practice and Frome Town Council.
