Frome Town Council are absolutely thrilled at the huge numbers of people who turned out to support the town’s Edwardian Extravaganza this weekend.
Frome Town Centre was transformed into an Edwardian fairground on Friday November 28th and 29th as an estimated 3000 people descended on Frome to try their luck on the vintage fairground games, listen to the wonderful street singers, marvel at the fantastic theatrical performances, watch the fire jugglers and shop with our fantastic independent traders. A team at Frome Town Council curated the weekend entertainment with help from The Renegade Artists Bureau at Bristol’s Invisible Circus, which saw their street performers mesh with Frome artists to create an enchanting evening’s entertainment, one not to be forgotten. Frome people stayed in their hundreds to watch the fire show which was the grand finale from Flame Oz.
The Independent Mayor of Frome, Councillor Peter Macfadyen said… “This year was a return of the Extravaganza to the people and I am delighted it worked so well. Community support started with a team of people weeding the streets through to a range of key inputs over the weekend. While the Council brought in expertise, the intention is to build skills within the community during 2015 so the event becomes even more Frome owned. This year’s event also saw a really significant input by local businesses to help meet the costs, which we also intend to build on into the future”.
There are so many people Frome Town Council would like to thank for helping them curate such a wonderfully engaging event. Special thanks go to the sponsors, donors and other supporters, including Bluebird Care, Garston Vets, Pullin Rose, Catherine Hill Traders Association, My Storage, Old Bath Arms, Lettings R Us, The Refectory, Aveling Adventure, Frome Wholefoods, TSB, The George Hotel, Subway, Derick Hoysted, Andrew Prince of Studio Prints, and last but by no means least all the vintage games volunteers.
The Extravaganza weekend was an incredible start to the festive period – the atmosphere and excitement of the people was buzzing throughout the weekend. As a reminder of the event, please check out the specially commissioned film produced by Gulliver Moore below.
