Jackdaws Music Education Trust is dedicated to improving participation in and enjoyment of music through weekend courses, education projects, a Young Artists Programme and performances by world class musicians.
Every Friday during term time, Jackdaws runs Jack’s Music Club from 4:30pm-5:30pm, for children aged 10-17 looking to use their music as a social opportunity to play in groups and ensembles, with the opportunity of earning a prestigious Arts Award qualification.
The Jackdaws Songbirds are a community choir with sessions on Tuesdays (1.30pm – 2.45pm, St Catharine’s church hall, infants welcome!) and Thursdays (7.40pm – 9.10pm, St John’s School). Songs in multiple styles and languages are taught by ear without the need to read music.
One Day Courses, which run from 10:30am – 4pm (with welcome coffee from 10am) make an excellent introduction to Jackdaws courses for local musicians and music makers.
They also run a Summer Production Week in the summer holidays. See their website for further details.
Visit their website for further information about all their courses and activities for musicians of all abilities.
Venue hire
Jackdaws provides a beautiful location for a variety of events and activities including concerts, workshops, meetings and awaydays.
The main space, the Lehane Wishart studio was completed in 2019 and offers a wonderful setting for small concerts and recitals. As a concert venue, the hall seats up to 50 people and also houses a Steinway Grand piano. The room is also a marvellous education space for workshops and classes, and provides a tranquil, undisturbed venue for meetings or awaydays. The main studio and a number of smaller rooms can also be hired for private practice or for groups of musicians who wish to rehearse together.
Jackdaws has an in house team of friendly and helpful cooks who can provide catering as required. They specialise in tasty freshly prepared food and wonderful cakes!
