With the Frome Community Bike Project finalizing their new HQ by the station, and the SHARE shop in the process of setting up a bike delivery service to allow more people to borrow from their Library of Things – it’s fair to say that Frome fully embraces cycling all year round, even with all the hills!
Cycle September is off to a flying start with a couple of exciting cycling events at the Old Showfield this month. First off, the Lions Club of Frome hosts their annual Ride Kids Ride event on Sunday 17th September which welcomes many of Frome’s youngest riders to do laps either by bike, scoot or skateboard. Taking place from 12:30 – 3:30pm every entrant will receive a medal, plus entry into a raffle to win a bike and helmet donated by Halfords.
The second event is the return of Cyclo-Cross supported by Pronto Bikes, taking place on Sunday 24th September at the Showfield. Go along and spectate as the riders compete across the short course in an effort to gain the best time and win their category – it’s a fast-paced spectacle where riders demonstrate their off-road skills.
If that all feels a bit too energetic but has piqued your interest and you wonder whether cycling is for you. Why not try Cycle Together from Frome Town Council and the Green & Healthy Frome team? It’s available for anyone in Frome who is thinking of starting to ride a bike for fitness, leisure or as a cheaper and more reliable way to get to work. Participants of the Cycle Together scheme borrow an ebike for four weeks and attend up to six hours of guided group rides during the hire period. You can find more information on our Cycle Together page.
