On Saturday 10th August, Frome Town Council hosted a celebration in Victoria Park, marking the council’s 50th anniversary.
Children were kept entertained by The Magical Storybox, a music workshop with Sing-a-ling, the Carnival Club’s Thomas train, The Pod’s scrap trolley and bubbles and garden games in a kids’ arena. Meanwhile there was live music from Frome Town Band, Butane Skies and talented soloist Millie Steel, followed by a ceilidh with the South West Ceilidh Band. A barbecue from the Victoria Park community cafe and wood-fired pizza joined a pop-up bar by the Cheese and Grain, along with ice cream to match the sunshine, which made a welcome appearance.
The High Sheriff of Somerset Rob Beckley was in attendance and enjoyed chatting with the many charities and community groups who ran activities and stalls on the day, along with Cllr Anita Collier, wearing gold to mark the golden anniversary and Mayor Andy Jones with mayor’s consort Anne.
Cllr Anita Collier said: “It was wonderful to see so many people turn out for the community celebration on Saturday and to celebrate 50 years of FTC with so many of the brilliant organisations that give Frome its unique character and strong community. We look forward to continuing to serve that community for the next 50 years and beyond”
