It may be the summer holidays, but Frome Town Council are turning their attention to Christmas and the annual Light Switch On by asking local food and drink stallholders to register their interest in taking part.
The popular event gets residents into the festive season with performances from local groups and carols from choirs and Frome Town Band. A mesmerising lantern parade led by a Samba Band draws people into the town centre for the official light switch on. This year the lanterns, which are made throughout the town at community events, will celebrate not only Christmas but also well-known historic Frome resident J.W.Singer’s 200th birthday year.
The celebration is on Friday 29 November from 5-7pm and the organisers are on the hunt for food stallholders, particularly of the sweet variety. If you own a van or pop-up food stall serving delicious drinks and food that you think would fit well with the Christmas event we want to hear from you. Space is limited so selection will be based on the variety on offer. Just send an email with details of your offer and photos of your stall to christmas@frometowncouncil.gov.uk.
There is lots more festive fun planned. Late night shopping starts from the 28 November on the Thursdays leading up to Christmas, and a chance to celebrate our own local shops and family-run businesses with Small Business Saturday held across the UK on 7 December.
Frome Town Council are also looking for a local business to sponsor the Christmas Tree, if this could be you please get in touch via the same email address.
