Environmenstrual Week takes place from the 21st to the 25th October and the Plastic Free. Period. team in Frome is keen to use it as an opportunity to raise awareness of the environmental and health concerns linked to the use of plastic period products.
Plastic Free. Period. is a partnership between Frome Town Council and Frome Medical Practice and recently hosted two events in Frome on this topic, which were attended by a range of people wanting to learn more about this issue. Cllr Fiona Barrows said, “The events brought together residents and businesses committed to reducing plastic waste in menstrual products. People who came along learned about the harmful effects of single-use plastics on our environment and explored sustainable alternatives. From reusable pads to menstrual cups, the focus was on empowering individuals to make informed choices that benefit both their health and the health of the planet.”
As part of Environmenstrual Week the Plastic Free. Period. team is reminding local people that discounted period products are available at various local retailers. Charlotte Carson, the Community Sustainability Lead at Frome Medical Practice, was one of the organisers of the recent events and said, “We’ve worked with small independent local businesses who sell sustainable period products so they can be offered for sale with a discount. And if your preferred alternative product isn’t available in Frome, we’ve a number of discount codes available with online retailers. We want to make sustainable options more accessible, so we can encourage local people to choose healthier menstrual products. We are enormously grateful to the local shops who are helping us with this by offering the discounts.”
Local people can find out more about the discounts, what a period pant is made of and examples of the different styles available at our Plastic Free. Period. window display, which can be seen at Frome Wholefoods on Cheap Street.”
A 10% discount is available when you quote ‘Plastic Free. Period.’ in the following local shops:
