Frome Community Hub: access support at the town hall

Frome Town Hall, home of the Frome Community Hub

The Community Hub at Frome Town Hall hosts a range of services offering support for residents, including financial and legal advice, help for refugees, food bank referrals and more. Local practitioners including Frome’s Welcome Hub for displaced people, Citizens Advice, Prosper Frome and Safe Link’s service for people affected by rape, sexual abuse and domestic violence work offer regular sessions at the Community Hub.

The Hub aims to support residents to access all the services that they need in one place. It will also address gaps in service to both statutory and signposting services and drop-in sessions to external Voluntary, Community, Faith and Social Enterprise provision.

Cllr Anne Hills says: “The Community Hub really is a fantastic initiative, providing comprehensive services, all in one place, and making face-to-face support more accessible to those who need it. Please make the most of these drop-in groups and sessions, as the Hub is here to help and provide advice and guidance to all residents, in a confidential manner should you require it”.

Throughout the week, people in need of a food bank referral can apply at the following times:

  • Mondays 10am to 3pm (at Citizen’s Advice)
  • Tuesdays 10am to 12pm
  • Wednesdays 10am to 12pm
  • Thursdays 2pm to 4pm (at Prosper Frome)
  • Fridays 10am to 12pm

On Mondays, Citizens Advice Somerset offer a drop-in service to support those who can’t access their services by phone or online. MIND’s Youth Matters sessions for young people aged 12 and over operate weekly (by referral), and Frome’s Autism and ADHD Paret/Carer Forum meets once a month.

On Tuesdays, the Welcome Hub’s staff support the refugee and asylum-seeking community in Frome. If English isn’t your main language, the Welcome Hub can also offer you ESOL classes – English classes for Speakers of Other Languages. The Welcome Hub is open Tuesdays between 10am to 3pm at Frome Town Hall. All displaced people from all countries are welcome. Fair Frome’s Community Pantry runs every Tuesday afternoon (self-referral): those who qualify for a six-month membership for the pantry can access low-cost groceries.

On Wednesdays, Frome health visitors are at the Elliott Building behind the Town Hall from 1pm-2.30pm each week, Frome Birth Talk’s free professional counselling service for new and expectant parents runs at the town hall (by referral) and a monthly baby loss group runs on the first Wednesday of the month from 7pm to 9pm. On the second Wednesday of each month, a drop-in support and advice service for anyone affected by rape, sexual abuse or domestic violence from Safe Link runs from 10am to 1pm at the Hub.

On Thursdays, residents can access free financial advice on various money matters from Prosper Frome. Health Connections Mendip also offer free welfare checks for displaced people from 12pm to 2pm (by referral)
