A weekend of walks for all ages

Walkers are Welcome, 2018

This weekend Frome’s annual walking festival returns, with a diverse programme of 18 guided walks, including 11 free walks, from Friday 16th to Sunday 18th August. Covering history, health, nature and family fun, there’s something for all ages, interests and abilities

Katie Fraser, Resilience Project Officer at Frome Town Council, said ‘Over 150 tickets have already been booked for this year’s walking festival. Take an hour out of your busy schedule for the gentle two-mile Kindness Trail or make a day of it with a 13-mile trek through the countryside and villages around Frome. The walking festival is always a great opportunity to learn something new or just to enjoy being outdoors. Walkers are Welcome have done a fantastic job with this year’s varied and inclusive programme, which we’re thrilled to be supporting at FTC, along with Frome Selwood Rotary.’

Taking place in the summer holidays, many of the walks are family friendly, including a relaxed family walk with local charity Frome’s Missing Links on Saturday 17th August, at 2pm. Walkers and wheelers will explore the recently completed path through Whatcombe Fields, which is now accessible to buggies, scooters, wheelchairs and little feet in all weathers.

The family walk is one of four supporting charities with optional donations. The family-friendly Kindness Trail will be accepting donations at the Good Heart café (with tea and cake!) and the fascinating War Graves walk is taking place on Friday and Saturday with any donations supporting the Trussel Trust.

Whether lacing up your walking boots for a countryside ramble or putting on your dancing shoes for a hilarious silent disco tour, make sure you book your tickets before they sell out.

The Walkers are Welcome pop-up stall will be outside the Cheese & Grain from Friday to Sunday for last-minute tickets, and with a great selection of local walking maps on sale.
