
On 8th May 2025, Frome will mark the historic 80th anniversary of VE Day, by coming together to celebrate 80 years of peace since the end of World War II in Europe, for which so many millions paid the ultimate sacrifice to achieve.
Events planned for Frome include:
Community Bunting Project
April to August
A community call to action to make bunting, in red, white and blue. A tribute linking VE Day on 8th May and VJ Day 15 August. Make and mend bunting to be dropped off to Frome Town Hall for collection)
Frome Town Band – Concert in the Park including songs commemorating VE Day
Sunday 4th May, Victoria Park, Frome
Bring a picnic and enjoy music across the decades including the 1940’s
Thursday 8th May – Songs and Scones at Frome Memorial Theatre
2.45 pm: Gather Frome Memorial Theatre
3pm: Churchill’s 1945 VE Day speech followed by wreath laying and ending with King George VI speech to the nation
3.15pm: 1940s themed Songs and Scones in the Memorial Garden or Assembly Rooms, weather dependent. 1940s style dress optional but encouraged!
5pm: Gather at Frome Memorial for informal parade to St Johns Church, reenacting the parade of 8th May 1945
5.30pm: Thanksgiving Service using the Victory Order of Service from 8th May 1945
6.30pm: Church bells of St Johns Church and the nation to ring out
9.30pm: National Beacon Lighting from 9.30pm
August 2025:VJ Events in August and Frome Festival of Remembrance in November to be announced
