The last few weeks have been so busy for me on the Mayoral front. I have been invited to attend so many amazing events in our wonderful town. Well, this is Frome. Here are just some of them:
Frome Busks was such a success with so many talented Frome College students showing how musically talented they are. Everyone performing did so with enthusiasm and a smile! Well done to all.
I was pleased to be invited to the grand opening of Frome Museum after a refurbishment. I met so many trustees and volunteers who had worked to achieve the museum’s great environment. I got to meet David Crisp, who discovered the Frome Hoard and Anne Shepard who, with her husband, farm the land where the Hoard was found. And I even got to cut the cake!
Frome’s annual Big Spring Clean saw councillors, council staff, town rangers and volunteers turn out to give the town centre a spruce up. A big thank you to all involved. Of course, I cleaned the bus shelters with the help of Peter Travis, Somerset Bus Partnership.
I paid a flying visit to Frome Town Women’s Football Club‘s ‘Train with the Team’ event to celebrate International Women’s day. Great to see so many girls and women participating and I even got a selfie with the Captain Keira-Leigh Underhill. What a fantastic event.
The Kindness Festival has become part of the Frome calendar. New this year, the Kind Bank was truly inspired and was the hub of the many featured events. They all brought a smile to people’s faces and made us all think about kindness in our community and how we all have the power to transform someone’s day.
The real highlight of the festival, and my year as Mayor, was to meet and spend time talking to Ken Loach, the incredible film director and screenwriter who attended the showing of his most recent film, The Old Oak. It was a pleasure to meet him and an honour to thank him on behalf of Frome.
And with all this going on, I still managed to clean the Christ Church bus shelter. Such a glamourous life.
As the Kindness Festival team get back to the day-to-day running of the wonderful The Good Heart, there’s lots more to look forward to. Frome Faerie Fair will be bringing a touch of magic to the South Parade Club on 30th March, with activities for all the family. And if you have a brilliant idea for Frome, you have a platform to share it at the Annual Town Meeting on 3rd April: you have the stage for three minutes to tell us about your plan or idea. We’ll also be giving out Civic awards to some of the people who have made a difference this year, talking to our wonderful community groups and hearing your questions, whether you take to the stage for a three-minute pitch or not.
And as we approach the Easter break, let us take time to check on friends and neighbours and maybe even give them a small gift of a plant or some seeds or even an Easter egg.
