Frome Town Council are working with Green Play Project on a refresh of the Old Showfield play park to create a space that is loved, well used and accessible to all.
The plans incorporate some of the existing elements such as gateways and pathways, a well-loved roundabout and hanging swinger. The existing slide will also be improved and recommissioned, but a new, wider accessible slide will also be added. And there are plenty of other exciting new elements too such as a pole jungle, swings, trampolines, a sand pit with climbing structure, and both monkey and hanging bars.
Following extensive engagement and a robust tender process, Green Play have been chosen as the partners for this project. Councillor Mark Dorrington said: “We talked to a lot of people before we started and we heard straight away that there was definitely a need for greater accessibility and spaces for all, but also some elements were seen as really important – a shelter, swings and trampoline were things that we heard time and again – but also that the space needed to be truly accessible and most of all full of activity and fun!”
Mark went on to say: “Grounds works were also important to fix some of the issues of water pooling on the site to allow for play throughout the year – and fantastically this solution is playful!
And there are some elements where we’d like your opinions; where would like to see benches, and a shelter, and what type of swings would you like to see? We also want to know if there is anything that we have missed. There are a choices to be made and a chance for your opinion to be heard – so please go online and have your say.”
