This summer local families can enjoy whole days playing in, and learning about, nature thanks to a community grant from Frome Town Council.
Shared Earth Learning Cooperative has teamed up with Vallis Veg to provide Forest School days every Tuesday and Wednesday throughout August. The recent grant means they are able to offer subsidised places for children from low-income families, who might otherwise not get a chance to experience this style of learning and fun.
Mayor of Frome Mark Dorrington said, “The summer holidays can be a difficult time for some families, with many looking for activities they can join in with at low cost, so we are delighted to be able to support this project with a community grant.”
The Forest School offers children the chance to develop confidence and self-esteem through hands-on learning experiences such as exploring, playing, foraging, cooking and creating.
In the last grant round Frome Town Council funded seven community projects with grants totalling £7,200. The new grants round is now open for applications with a deadline of 23 September 2019.
As well as the Community Grant scheme the council also runs the ongoing Mayor’s Grants which is for applications up to £300. Find out more about both schemes here.
