Frome’s celebrated Walking Festival is back for another year, seeing the return of some town favourites plus some enticing new additions. The 2022 programme, brought to you by Frome’s Walkers Are Welcome and the Town Council, boasts 17 walks centred around history, nature, the countryside and even dancing. So dig out your walking boots and/or your dancing shoes and get involved.
Taking place across the weekend of the 11th to 13th November, the festival both encourages people to get into the outdoor fresh air and to take some time to learn more about the rich history of the town. The programme is packed with guided tours, countryside hikes, and self-guided activities.
For those hoping to breath in the crisp winter outdoors air, the ‘Longleats Wood’, ‘Riverside’ and ‘Orchardleigh’ are there to help you soak in Frome’s beautiful countryside. Frome’s deep and rich history will be explored in all its facets, from exploring the lives of the town’s ‘Celebrated Women’, a Remembrance Sunday special looking at Frome’s ’War Graves’, a recount of the ‘Awful Killing of Sarah Watts’ and much more. And for the arty types some brand new offerings: for those who like to write, join David Hamilton on the ‘Writer’s Walk’, sharing the outdoor spaces where inspiration comes most freely; and for those who want to let loose the ‘Silent Disco Tour’ promises to jive along Frome’s musical ‘whistory’.
On top of this all, the 2022 Festival will, for the first time, be offering an accessible walk telling some highlights from the ‘Long History of Frome’. There will also be a ‘Buggy Walk’ and family-friendly trails.
