Back in April, Frome Town Council’s Planning Committee objected to the outline planning application for a development of up to 150 residential dwellings on Marston Lane (see below for the position statement issued at the time). This was also subsequently refused at Mendip’s Planning Board in June.
The developer, Gleeson Land, has appealed this decision and this will now be examined at a public enquiry. Any previous comments made on the initial planning application will be automatically included in the enquiry.

Original position statement issued at the time of initial application:
Members of the Planning Committee met on Thursday 28th April to consider the major planning applications received. This included the outline planning application for a development of up to 150 residential dwellings on Marston Lane, Frome. The meeting was attended by 35 people with an interest in the Marston Lane proposals.
The Committee agreed unanimously to object to the proposals, Chair of Frome Town Council Planning Committee, Councillor Steve Tanner said: “We thought that the application was purely speculative in its nature and that it would impact greatly on the landscape of Frome as you enter from the west – it is outside the town boundary and there was a huge strength of feeling amongst residents and councillors of all tiers against this opportunist development which would give nothing back to the town. We would now urge that Mendip District Council planning committee now support our decision and themselves object strongly to this application. This is simply not good enough for Frome.”
