Now the clocks have changed, and the nights are darker what better way to start the Christmas festivities than by lighting the night with a lantern parade at the Christmas light switch on!
On Friday 26th November from 5pm – 6:45pm, Frome’s town centre will once again be transformed into a magical scene with hundreds of lanterns descending down Bath Street to the Market Place and the lights of the Christmas tree being illuminated.
Enchanted Winter Gardens is this year’s theme for the lanterns and the Light the Night team are busy hosting lantern making workshops across the town throughout November. Head over to the Frome Lanterns website for all the details and book yourself onto a session.
If you’re an old hand at making these lanterns, kits are available from the Town Hall and the Discover Frome information point. There are kits from the simple to the more adventurous so make sure you pick you kit up and start getting creative.
Alongside the lanterns there will be music and merriment to build the excitement on the night. Performances from Frome Town Band, Rock Choir and The Street Bandits will get us all in the mood for the countdown to the switch on.
Cllr Anita Collier added: “It’s such a magical time for the whole town to enjoy, it really does kick off the festive season. I can’t wait for the lanterns in town, they were very much missed last year. Once the lights have been switched on, we can make our way to the Market Yard car park to enjoy the delights of the Little Night Market.”
A Little Night Market, organised by the Independent Market, will take place from 4pm – 8:30pm, there will be a host of stalls selling gifts along with street food, drinks and music.
On the evening we ask that all attendees to act in a covid safe manner by following social distancing and hand hygiene and not to attend if feeling unwell.
