Frome gets keys to its Town Hall

After a three-year project, the keys to the newly refurbished Town Hall were handed over to Frome Town Council on 8th February in preparation for the building’s launch later this Spring.

Acting as a centre for the all the community, this beautiful building will be launched on the 1st April and be home to several charities, local organisations, and Frome Town Council itself. Additionally, in a move to combine a wide variety of information under one roof, the Frome Information Centre will also be based at the Town Hall where it will continue to provide advice to both residents and visitors.

Now that the refurbishment has been completed, the Town Hall’s beautiful  Council Chamber and other meeting rooms will be for hire and will be discounted for local community groups. In addition, the Town Hall will house a selection of local organisations devoted to improving the life of the community. It will also contain the Frome Information Centre, which will be moving from the library. Residents and visitors will be welcome to pop in to ask about volunteering opportunities, what’s going on in the town and enquiries for the town, Mendip, and Somerset Councils.

The building was handed over to the Council by Paul Harris of building contractors A. Hammond and Sons Ltd, who have been working hard on bringing the building back to life under the supervision of NVB Architects of Frome.

Meg Mosley, Marketing and Communications Manager and Town Hall Manager, was also present for the handover. Meg said, “This is a big day for Frome Town Council. For me it’s such a wonderful opportunity to be able to bring the Town Hall back into Frome hands. This building is for the community to use and I’ll be delighted to welcome them from April. Sean and I can’t wait to get going.”

Sean Powell, Town Hall Steward said, “It’s amazing to get the keys, this is an incredible building and my job is to welcome the public and support all the uses of this building for the community’s needs. Holding the keys makes it feel real now.”

The Town Hall will be equipped with a diverse range of spaces suitable for work, activities, and events. These include;

  • Two multiuse rooms – Perfect for business meetings or activities.
  • Desking space – Available to be booked either by the day or on a longer basis.
  • The Council Chamber – A stunning room that can hold 120 seats and would be ideal for functions, conferences, and weddings. The Chamber will also be used as the venue for the Town Council’s public meetings.

All parts of the building are accessible to all.

The Town Hall will host a launch night on April 1st, details of which will come out closer to the date. All are welcome to attend and see their new building.

Meg Mosley adds, “We are working on creating a really special event for the community for launch night April 1st. We’d love the night to be a real community effort and be an event to match the ethos of this wonderful community building.”
