Local authorities to work together on Saxonvale, Frome

Bringing forward the redevelopment of the former industrial site at Saxonvale in Frome has proved complicated.  The local authorities in the area recognise that success depends on them bringing their collective will and abilities together and working pro-actively with private landowners and developers to secure delivery.

In the light of this, Frome Town Council, Mendip District Council and Somerset County Council have now agreed to work together and have set up a Saxonvale Steering Group to coordinate the public sector’s approach to the regeneration of the site.

The key focus of the group will be to work collectively to develop:

  • A coordinated approach to how land owned by MDC and FTC can be used to further regeneration at Saxonvale
  • Technical solutions to site-specific challenges e.g. highways, planning etc.
  • An agreed implementation programme of actions to support the site’s regeneration
  • A strategy for raising external funding e.g. from Government agencies

In doing so, the Group will wish to work closely with private landowners and developers and enable them to bring forward development which best meets the needs of the town.

We recognise that as partners we will achieve much more than we can individually and so we look forward to working together and with the private sector to bring forward a successful regeneration of this important town centre site.
