Frome Town Council is calling on local businesses to set up ‘drop off boxes’ on their premises, so staff or visitors can donate items for Fair Frome foodbank.
Fair Frome has reported that in the last few weeks’ demand for grocery top-ups has seen a record high; and the food bank is now low on many items which help to make up parcels.
The town council’s office has set up its own box and staff have donated non-perishable tinned and dried foods to provide a top-up for families in Frome. They are asking if other businesses can do the same.
Over the last 12 months 445 households have been supported through the Food Bank, 400+ people have attended their Community Dining events. 35 volunteers help run the food bank, fund raising events, and other projects aimed at reducing financial, social and educational poverty.
Wendy Miller-Williams, Coordinator of Fair Frome said, “We’re struggling to cope with the provision of emergency food for an increasing number of people in Frome undergoing crisis – our figures show the reasons for this are benefit changes, delays in benefit payments and debt. So if you are able to help at all with food donations, we really appreciate all your support at a critical time for our community”
Donations can be dropped off at Fair Frome offices on Palmer Street. If the donation is a large amount, you can call Wendy on 07714587129 to arrange a collection.
