Frome heard from renewable energy experts at the ‘Switch to a Renewable Future’ event, which took place over weekend of 5 March 2016.
The SWITCH event – a collaboration between the Town Council and the Twinning Association, saw local, national and international experts and pioneers in their field discuss and explore ways of reducing emissions, cutting energy costs and increasing energy security at a local level. Speakers and audience members travelled for the event from Frome’s twin towns Chateau-Gontier, France, Rabka Zdroj, Poland, and Murrhardt, Germany.
Speakers included Camille Dressler, from the Isle of Eigg, which produces all of its energy renewably, chair of Frome’s own Renewable Energy Co-op (FRECo), Anna Francis; and solar expert Professor Keith Barnham.
The event was packed with topics which ranged from sharing transport needs with Ellie Grebenik from Co-Wheels, producing energy from food waste – a talk by Lucy Francis from Wyke Farms, based nearby Bruton and Jan-Willem Bode from Mongoose Energy to name but a few. You can find out about what was covered using links below, which provide presentations.
Anna Francis and Laura Parry – co-organisers said “It was really inspiring to hear about all of the projects happening locally and in Europe to cut emissions and create healthy, resilient towns. We look forward to working with the communities and towns further to ensure Frome and places like it can combat fuel poverty and generate energy cleanly.”
