Apprenticeships & Traineeships
Frome Town Council is working with Frome College to help create new apprenticeship and traineeship opportunities in Frome. The Town Council is funding a part-time Apprenticeship Project Coordinator who is working with employers in the town to help them identify grant funding, relevant training providers and potential recruits.
Earlier research had demonstrated the importance of providing a Frome based point of contact and information for employers – enabling recruitment of apprentices from a local talent pool. With his background in this field, the Coordinator, Terry Bishop is well placed to deliver this service.
What are apprenticeships?
Apprenticeships are paid work based learning programmes where employers provide the on the job training leading to a nationally recognised qualification. Off the job training usually takes place at a college or a training centre one day per week and provides the apprentice with up to date skills and knowledge. Employers pay the apprentice’s standard wages but the overall training programme is managed by an industry skilled training provider.
What are traineeships
Traineeships are a combined programme of education and training for young people to help them secure an apprenticeship or a job. They can last up to 6 months and employers provide an unpaid training placement for the trainee. This is supplemented by off the job work preparation training provided by a training provider.
