We’re inviting and encouraging local people to stage their own street party in order to get know their neighbours better this summer – as part of the Big Lunch initiative. One of the things to consider is a Risk Assessment – writing a risk assessment doesn’t have to be daunting or scary. It doesn’t have to be a complicated and technical process completed by a trained expert, either! It’s just something that will encourage and prompt you to organise a safe event that everyone can enjoy.
Simple steps to a risk assessment:
- Get together with some sensible and reasonable folks who are helping with your event. A bit of common sense goes a long way
- We’ve put together an Example Risk Assessment for a Community Event – and hopefully this might help as a starting point for some discussions
- You don’t have to follow this format – although you’re more than welcome to if it suits!
- What you will need to do is think about what you’ve got planned for your event – and/or what you’d like to do
- Note down what could go wrong – then how you can manage that
- If you’re happy that you can manage any hazards and problems then you’re good to go
- If you’re concerned about things then think about whether you really want or need that part of your event
- If you do then find different or additional controls & measures so you can do it safely. This could include paying somewhere to deliver part of your event
