The much anticipated new Discover Frome Map & Guide has now arrived, published by Cityscape Maps and funded by Frome Town Council and Mendip Tourism. Its purpose is to complement the information available online at www.discoverfrome.co.uk by providing a resource for visitors when they arrive in the town. Initially, the Map & Guide will be available at the Frome Information Centre at the price of £1.
Shortly, large scale maps and dispensers in strategic locations will enable visitors to obtain this information at times when the Centre is closed i.e. overnight and on Sundays. The intention is to locate these maps at the railway station, Kingsway, Westway, Cattle Market Car Park and Badcox, essentially all the key arrival points for visitors to the town.
What’s special about the new map is that it provides a ‘3 D’ view of the buildings and other features of the town as though you were looking at Frome from the air. It has been beautifully illustrated. Included are places to visit such as the Black Swan Arts Centre, Frome Museum, local parks, independent shops, entertainment venues, pubs, hotels, restaurants and cafes. The map also directs visitors to basic facilities such as cashpoints, toilets (including the location of all the community toilets provided by local businesses), car parks, taxi ranks and bus stops. The guide reflects Frome’s identity as a special place for the arts and events, its range of independent shopping and markets as well as some of the history and heritage of the town.
Frome Town Council’s Leader, Cllr Peter Macfadyen said, “The Map & Guide are one of a series of Council led projects that are designed to improve the town centre experience for visitors and residents alike. In addition, we will be continuing to support the Community Toilet scheme where local businesses make available their toilets to all, not just customers. Alongside traditional events such as the Frome Festival, Carnival and The Frome Independent, we also plan to support a number of new events based on ideas from the local community. I would like to thank all the local businesses who have supported this initiative.”
